Kaneland John Stewart Parent Teacher Network (PTN) Committees
The following is a list of Kaneland John Stewart PTN Committees with a brief description of each. In addition, a brief explanation of what is required for chairing the committee follows. Fliers for volunteer helpers are sent home prior to the event or activity by each committee as needed. Thank you for your continued support of the PTN.
After Class Enrichment (ACE): This program offers various after school theme-based or project-based classes of interest for four Thursdays in February. ACE is provided at no charge to students and is taught by parent and community volunteers who share their talents and hobbies with our students.
- Committee organizes volunteers to teach classes, registers students in their class choices and coordinates such efforts with the principal, staff, and volunteers.
Beautification: The Kaneland PTN Beautification Committee relies on a productive partnership between parent, teachers, students and community members to improve the physical appearance of the Kaneland John Stewart grounds in an effort to create a welcoming environment which inspires pride in our school. Dates are scheduled just twice a year. Volunteers can sign-up for specific areas to maintain year-round. This makes a great service project for area scout troops.
- Committee organizes volunteers and solicits donations.
Book Fair: During the week of parent-teacher conferences and Spring Open House, Kaneland John Stewart hosts a book fair. Parents and students can purchase books during the school day as well as during evening hours of conferences and open house. All proceeds generated from the book fairs go directly back to the LRC.
- Committee organizes volunteers; helps set up and clean up.
Box Top$ for Education: This General Mills-sponsored program provides cash incentives for Box Tops collected. Simply clip the Box Top along the dotted line and send them to school with your child. All money received directly benefits our children.
- Committee is responsible for publicizing, collecting, organizing and mailing box tops to company for reimbursement.
Classroom Representative: This program provides numerous opportunities for parental involvement in the classroom and school. Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of classroom volunteers for programs such as Fine Arts, party helpers and reading assistants.

Clothing and Toy Sale: You can support Kaneland John Stewart and earn extra spending money for yourself by participating in this semi-annual sale. This service allows participants to sell clothes on consignment and receive sixty percent of the profits.
- Committee will organize the sale, advertising, and volunteers for setup, sale date and clean up for bi-annual sale.
Fine Arts: This program educates children about various artists and their paintings in order to enrich students’ art appreciation.. Informational folders and art reproductions are provided to parent volunteers with details regarding the artist, his work, and appropriate hands-on activities that may be incorporated.
- Establish a monthly schedule with the classroom teachers and organize volunteers to provide artist information and activities in conjunction with artwork presented.
Fundraising: The fundraiser is catalog merchandise of specialty items, gift wrap and food products that students may sell to family and friends. Prizes are provided to children who participate. This is the largest fundraiser of the school year.
- Committee will develop, plan and organize fundraising activities and follow through with distribution.
Fun Lunch: Twice a month, this committee provides a hot lunch for a marginal fee to interested students in grades first through fifth.
- Committee will organize the distribution of order forms, collection of money and volunteer helpers. To date, lunches include Ream’s hotdogs, pizza from local venues, Subway, and McDonalds.
